Reflection

Write a few paragraphs reflecting on the following questions. Post your reflection to your blog.
  • How well do you think you did in the first major speech? What went well and what did not go very well and why?
  • What two aspects of delivery do you think you will need to improve for the next speech?
  • What strategies will you use for that purpose?

  1. I think that I did fairly well on the first major speech. I think that I covered all necessary categories well but could've gone into depth more. I think that for my delivery I should make my speech flow better and also move around more when I'm giving my speech. I will use the strategy of practicing for that purpose.

  2. 1) I think the second time I went I did very well!
    2) I need to prepare much more because I did not do that last time. I also need to move around more.
    3) I will practice much more next time before my speech.

  3. How well do you think you did in the first major speech? What went well and what did not go very well and why?
What two aspects of delivery do you think you will need to improve for the next speech?
What strategies will you use for that purpose?
    1. I think my first speech went just like what I expected. Not so good but still acceptable. I think I did my best in fluency, but the structure and some details still needed to improve.
    2. I think the overall structure and the details need to be improved for next speech, go deeper in the topic and find some evidence more stable to support my points.
    3. I will look for more outside information online, and have a better outline, plus, I will go to speech or writing center at least twice before my second final speech.

  4. I think I did fairly well on the first speech. I analyzed the commercial well and had an organized power point. I think I need to be less choppy when speaking. Maybe a little more eye contact and range of tone. Practice more in front of bigger audiences.

  5. I think I did overall pretty well on my major speech. I think I spoke loudly, kept good eye contact, and moved around the room. I practiced a lot to make it go well.
For the next speech I think I will need to memorize the information more, I knew what I was saying I just kept glancing down at my paper.
I will practice presenting to my friends and go over the speech more times then I did before.

  6. I think I did average on my speech, it wasn't amazing, but it wasn't the worst. I think what went well was the delivery of my speech, my explanation didn't go very well.
I could work on not speaking so fast and going in to more detail about the commercial for the next speech that we give.
I will practice more at home trying to talk slower and do more research pertaining to the topic that we will give our speech on and provide more information.

  7. 1. I think that I did pretty well for the first major speech. I feel that considering how much anxiety I get with speeches I out did myself. I am overall very proud of myself and what I accomplished because I know how I get when it comes to talking in front of people.

    2. For the next speech I think I need to improve on pauses and walking around a little bit more. I was a little nervous so I think I need to do a better job getting more comfortable with being up in front of people.

    3. I will use strategies such as finding proper places for pauses and walking around. I'll make side notes to myself about when to have certain pauses.

  8. I am happy with how I did on the first speech. I knew my information and I was not very nervous. I do think that I could have put a bit more effort into my visual aids, and I know that I do not always seem very natural when I give speeches. But that is a difficult thing to master, and overall I feel that I did pretty well.

For the next speech I should move around more, use more variation of tone, and improve my visuals. In order to achieve these goals I will put more effort into practicing my speech multiple times beforehand in front of my roommates or other peers, and ask for constructive criticism.

  9. I think that I did well on my first major speech. Specifically, I think that my delivery and use of gestures/eye contact was my best attribute. I think that I need to work on using less filler words, speaking slower so that I can articulate my words better/not get mixed up in the middle of what I’m saying. Some strategies that I can use for that purpose are: using more concise notes on my PowerPoint so that it’s easier for me to develop my thoughts into what I want to say, as well as simply slowing things down when I give a speech in the future.

  10. I think I did pretty good on my first major speech. Things that went well were I was able to explain my different points and I had a organized power point. Some thing that didn't go well was I went through my presentation fast and didn't speak loud enough.

For the next speech, I need to speak louder and with more confidence and I also need to slow down my speech. Some thing I can do that will help me achieve that goal is practice more so I feel more comfortable in front of a audience.

  11. 1) I think that I did well on the first speech. I did have problems with my tone throughout and I will focus on that later for the next speech. I felt that my content was good though.
2)I will need to make sure that I have a balanced speech and am not too heavy on one part of it and then I need to fix my tone and try to sound more excited about the topic.
    3) I will try to practice a better tone when practicing my speech in the future.

  12. I think my speech could have been better. I was able to provide content, but I wish I would have gone more in depth with the information I provided. I was a lot more confident delivering my speech the second time around. The two aspects of delivery I need to improve would be better eye contact and more in depth content. I should know my slides better that way I don't have to be looking at them while I could be looking at the audience.

  13. I think I did well in my first major speech. I think I gave a lot of information to the audience so they were able to understand my topic well. I also think I made it very clear what the purpose was versus the effectiveness. I think I did talk a little fast and I should of slowed down. Also, I should of made shorter bullet points on my powerpoint slides.

I think I need to slow down for my next speech and memorize the information better so I do not look at the screen.

For my next speech I will practice more so I feel more comfortable.

  14. I think for my first speech went well. There are for sure things I can improve in. But, for the first speech I am happy with my overall speech. I think it went well because I was able to pick my topic. This helped in the sense I was able to find one that I enjoyed, making it easier to do research and be interested in the topic. I think when presenting I was not nervous, so that helped overall in the case that, I felt confident, leading to having a better speech.

    2 aspects of delivery
    1. Do not use fillers. When I go into explaining info, I tend to say like a lot. When practicing my speech I did it a lot more. The day I presented, I noticed I did it as well, but not as much as before. The more and more I practice, I believe the easier it will be to cut out the fillers.
    2. my speed. There were times in the speech where I would talk faster than normal. Since I had a lot of info, I felt at some points I felt rushed, leading to me talking faster then I should.

A strategy would be to practice. The more a person practices, the more confident they feel, along with knowing the information better, so they don't need to read off the board.

  15. For my first major speech I thought I rehearsed my speech well. In the actual speech I new all my slides well and knew what topic to discuss and when. Something that did not go will was I did use some speech fillers. they weren't horrible but they were there. Two things I need to improve on is eye contact with my audience and using filler words. Strategies I will use for this will be practicing with friends and using eye contact to help me. Also I will slow down when I talk so I will not be tempted to use filler words.

  16. I think for the most part, the speech went well. I think I felt well prepared and had enough time to practice and go over my speech. I think something I could have improved on my powerpoint in some aspects. I think for my next speech I could work on the tone in my voice. I think that I sounded pretty monotone throughout and could add some changes to make the speech sound more interesting. Another aspect I could change is the pauses. I feel like I didn't utilize them as much as I could have. One strategy I will use for the purpose is to make it more focused for next time.

  17. Overall I think I did very well on my major speech, I think I spoke loud and clear which helped the audience follow along. Also I didn't use a lot of text on my screens which forced the audience to follow along to what I was saying. Some of the things I need to improve on is my effectiveness point, I didn't have a lot of evidence for that. for my next speech I would need to focus on my evidence points, also a tone adjuster. To help out with my next speech I will practice more and maybe have someone look a bit more into my speech.

  18. I think I did well on my first major speech. Things I did well was deeply analyzing my data and being confident about what I was saying. I think for next speech I can improve on slowing down my speaking and going through my presentation quickly.

For my final speech, I think I can speak louder at some points. To get rid of this habit I think I can just practice more and possibly even practice in front of people. Also I think I need to slow down my speaking to advoid filler words. In my next speech, I will use pauses and slow down that I feel comfortable about what I am saying.

  19. Overall, I think that the second time I did my speech, the final one, I did well. The things that went well were definitely my deliverance as a whole. Some things that were done well were the hook, my volume, and my eye contact. Something that I could have done better was elaborating on the effectiveness. The two aspects of delivery that I want to work on the most are tone and rate of speech. In order to do this, I will use signposts and practice more at home.
